How to Adapt to Work Life in Korea

1. ๐Ÿค” What’s Different About Korean Workplaces?

Korean work culture may feel strict at first. Hierarchy is important, and titles matter. Always follow rules and report problems to your boss instead of handling them alone. Safety is highly valued, so respect procedures and teamwork.

2. ๐Ÿ—ฃ️ How Should You Address People?

Use job titles with respect — say “Manager Kim” or just “Manager.” For peers, “Kim Daeri” is fine, but if they’re older or more experienced, use honorifics. For juniors or no-title staff, use "Mr./Ms. + name" respectfully. Each company may have its own style, so observe carefully!

3. ๐Ÿš Dining Etiquette at Work?

Meal time is social and important. Juniors often set water and dishes. When sharing stew, serve elders first. Don’t make loud eating sounds, and cover your mouth when talking while eating. Use chopsticks properly — never dig around!

4. ๐Ÿ‘‹ How to Make a Good Impression with Greetings?

Say “์•ˆ๋…•ํ•˜์„ธ์š” (Annyeonghaseyo)” instead of “Hi.” Say “๊ฐ์‚ฌํ•ฉ๋‹ˆ๋‹ค (Gamsahamnida)” instead of “Thanks.” When leaving, bow and say “Goodbye” or “See you.” Bowing is more polite than waving!

5. ๐Ÿ˜Ž How to Become Popular at Work?

Use two hands when giving or receiving anything, especially with a senior. Eat and chat with coworkers — Koreans value emotional connection (์ •). The more you understand Korean culture, the more enjoyable your work life will be!
