Must-Know Tips for Foreign Workers in Korea

๐Ÿ“‹ Registration Duties You Shouldn’t Ignore

If you plan to stay in Korea for more than 90 days, you must complete your foreigner registration. If you change your name or passport info, report it within 14 days.

Want to change jobs? First, get approval from the Employment Support Center, then apply for a workplace change at the Immigration Office to work legally.

Also, if you move to a new residence, report the change within 14 days at your local office or immigration branch.

๐Ÿ•’ How to Extend Your Employment Period

Don't worry when your employment contract ends. You can renew your contract with employer agreement, but you must also apply for an extension of the work permit.

Apply 60 days before the current permit expires. Submit the application either in person or online, along with documents like a renewed labor contract, Alien Registration Card, and passport. Results are usually given within 7 days.

Once approved, employers must pay additional wage insurance. Foreign workers must also apply for a stay extension before the deadline to avoid penalties.

๐Ÿ‘จ‍๐ŸŽ“ Skilled Worker Visa Conversion System

This system allows high-skilled EPS workers to convert to a long-term visa. It's a great opportunity to continue working in Korea long term.

You may qualify if you’re a re-entry worker with no job change, whose contract ends within a year, and meet the required point threshold. Points are based on job contribution, annual income, and future value.

Employers must meet specific conditions: certain manufacturing industries, no layoffs due to hiring foreigners, and must offer at least a one-year contract after switching to the E-7-4 visa.

✍️ How to Apply for the Skilled Worker Program

Applications open quarterly. Visit the Ministry of Employment and Labor website for the exact schedule. Submit the form and a standard contract copy by visiting or faxing your local labor office.

Selected applicants receive a recommendation letter from the Ministry, which must be submitted to the Ministry of Justice. Final selection is based on the points system.

More info is available on the EPS website. Check frequently to stay updated.
